The American Kennel Club warns, however, that holiday fixings can kill the family dog. Cookies, chocolate and holiday sweets should not be used as treats for dogs because they are too rich and chocolate contains Theobromine, which can be harmful and even fatal to dogs. No dog should ever have access to alcohol, and onions in stuffing and holiday vegetables can destroy a dog's red blood cells and lead to anemia.
